Military members nation-wide confront a multitude of problems during their careers, the last thing they need to worry about is their pet's care during their service commitments. Dogs On Deployment is a 501(c)(3) national non-profit which provides an online network for service members to search for volunteers who are willing to board their pets during their owner's service commitments. Dogs on Deployment promotes responsible, life-long pet ownership by military pet owners by advocating for military pet owner rights, providing educational resources and granting financial assistance for military pet owners during times of emergency. Join Dogs on Deployment's mission in changing the lives of our military members and their pets.

If you're an animal lover, this is a great program. I have 3 indoor cats but I've missed having a dog in my life. This was a program that fit both our needs. I've always been very involved in the military (volunteering, family members served) so this sounded like a win-win situation. My last boarder went home 2 weeks ago. I had Bentley from October 2013-July 2014. He was a wonderful companion that fit right in. The cats never did warm up to him (much as he tried) but they all learned to tolerate each other and there were never any issues with them fighting. One thing that was really great was that his owner had him on the wellness plan at PetsMart so I was able to take him in for his annual shots, teeth cleaning etc and not worry about the expense, plus they had all his records in case he became hurt or ill. I highly recommend this program for military members, there is usually a Petsmart near any military base. It was a exciting and heartbreaking to witness the home coming....but I know he's so happy to be back with his best buddy. They are near enough that should they need someone to keep Bentley for a week or something they are going to call. Thank goodness they are still sending pics (I sent a lot to them), so I see he's really happy to be back home.
